Description
LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide, processed from the inactive hCAP-18 precursor by neutrophil serine protease activity.
Mechanism: Amphipathic alpha-helical structure disrupts microbial membranes via electrostatic insertion. Additionally modulates innate immunity by chemoattracting neutrophils, monocytes and T-cells, and neutralising LPS.
Research findings: Active against gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, fungi and enveloped viruses in vitro. Reference compound in antimicrobial peptide, wound infection and innate immunity research. Reduced LL-37 levels are observed in atopic dermatitis and some chronic infection models.
Handling: Lyophilized peptide. Store sealed at -20°C for long-term stability or 2-8°C short-term. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water or 0.6% acetic acid as appropriate to the molecule.
